THE 2ND U.S. SPIRITIST MEDICAL CONGRESS

The 2nd U.S. Spiritist Medical Congress, held in October 2008, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was very successful in its purpose of advancing the concepts of an integrative medicine.

As in the first congress (held in Rockville, Maryland, in 2006), there were approximately 300 participants. Both events had prestigious speakers, among others Dr. Amit Goswami, Dr. Christina Puchalski, Dr. Dolores Krieger, Dr. Melvin Morse, Dr. Harold Koenig, Dr. Peter Fenwick, as well as renowned Brazilian physicians, all speakers of the highest scientific caliber, presenting their research and materials in support of the main theme of the congress: Bridging Medicine and Spirituality.

The talk of Dr. Dolores Krieger, one of the founders of the Therapeutic Touch (TT) was a testimony of the utmost importance in furthering the Spiritist beliefs in the efficacy of TT as a healing approach.  TT, as well as passes* practiced by Spiritists, are among several modalities of laying-on of hands. Dr. Krieger very kindly authorized the publication of the written version of her past talk, posted below. This is a sample of the great lectures that the SMA strives to offer at its events, geared towards the establishment of a new paradigm in healthcare that encompasses the concept of treating patients as a whole: body, mind and spirit.

Note:
* Passes are a transfusion of energy, altering the cellular field... In magnetic assistance, spiritual resources are blended between emission and reception, helping the individual in need to help him or herself." (In the Domains of Mediumship – Francisco C. Xavier (Andre Luiz), Ch.17)

At the 3rd US Spiritist Medical Congress you can learn about the laying-on of hands practice at the Bioenergy Treatment Center at the University of Washington Medical Center, how the Spiritist concepts are used in daily activities at a psychiatric hospital in Brazil, and so much more… (See Program).

THERAPEUTIC TOUCH: A BRIDGE TO THE INNER SELF

Dolores Krieger, PhD, RN
The Second United States Spiritist Medical Congress
Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Theme: “Bridging Medicine and Spirituality”

Thank you so much for inviting me to your Second Spiritist Medical Congress in the United States. I am sure there are as many ways to heal as there are ways for people to relate to each other; our commonality is in the expression of compassion to help or to heal those in need.

One of the earliest ways to heal, by the laying-on of hands, as you may know, left signs of its use in the geographical locus of your language, your heritage tongue, Portuguese, in the mountainous boundary between what is now Spain and France, in the Pyrenees. There, in the pictographs of the Cave of the Three Brothers, signs of the laying-on of hands have been etched as one of man’s earliest historical records. On the other hand, the mediumistic séance, which found popularity in the West only a few centuries ago and is embedded in the Spiritist movement, has been called the forerunner of modern psychotherapy. This broad spectrum of healing ways is an indication of the diversity of natural spiritual functions to which this Congress speaks.
